As we reported earlier last week, the Kickstarter campaign for a Serellan, LLC’s new tactical shooter Takedown was winding down on April 1, 2012 and was, at the time of writing, well short of their goal to raise $200,000 to bring the game to Alpha. The short amount of time remaining coupled with the large sum of money yet to be raised cast a bleak outlook, however fans came through and the final total was over $220,000 from almost 5,500 individual backers. Those who donated will receive various incentives depending on the size of the donation, including one person who donated $7,500 and will get a private LAN party from developer Christian Allen himself.

The Kickstarter project for Takedown was created to fulfill two purposes; to finance the game to the point of an Alpha version, and to show potential investors that a market for such games exists. The investment money from these Venture Capitalists would fund the game past the Alpha stage and see it to completion, provided the money materializes. This essentially means that the money raised from the Kickstarter program is “seed money” obtained via crowd-sourced funding, which will go to fund the start-up of the Takedown project.
